Lewis Flashcards
Can experience answer the question of miracles?
No
Why are miracles hard to prove?
It is useless to appeal to experience before we have the philosophic question whether or not miracles are possible
What is CS Lewis definition of a miracle and joe does it differ from the naturalist
An interference with nature by supernatural power
Nature: what happens of itself; a closed integrated system
Naturalists must give up
Free will
What is the fatal weakness of naturalism
Every single thing must be explained in terms of the “total suste,”
In naturalism, what kind of thinking would be impossible
Meta-cognition or introspection: in naturalism, nature controls independent thinking making independent thinking impossible (Darwin’s memes)
Is it possible for nature to give rise to a cosmic comscoiusness and if so what kind of “god” would it be
No, God (infinite) would have to arise out of the finite which is not possible. Therefore, a cosmic conscioussness would be like a human mind born out of a mindless nature
What is Lewis conclusion about nature producing a “God” or even the human mind?”
To believe that nature produced god or even the human mind is absurd
