Levers Flashcards
First Class Lever
The forces are evenly balanced and a wide range of movement can be produced
Second Class Lever
These levers are at a mechanical advantage because the load arm is bigger than the effort arm, and large loads can therefore be moved with minimal effort
Third Class Lever
These levers are at a mechanical disadvantage, because the load arm is greater than the effort arm, this allows large loads to be moved at a high velocity and with a large range of motion
The Lever Arm
Bones act as levers within the body
Fulcrum
The joints act as the fulcrum within the body
Load
The load is the object which needs to be moved
Effort
The muscle is the effort provided to move the load required
