- No specialization of labor

- No economy (because they only keep survival needs and don’t want to be concurred)
Tribe: Population
- In the lower hundreds
- More than a band less than a chiefdom
Tribe: Sedentism Patterns
Semi-nomadic
- Move around 3 - 4 times a year
- Move in the same area but not the same spot
Tribe: Subsistence Patterns
- Both hunting and gathering
Tribe: Architecture
- Teepee
- Easily moveable homes
- Domestication for transportation (horses)

- Oligarchy (made up of a group of men)
- How they elect: Based on Valor

- Traded to keep interdependence and create a reciprocal relationship
Chiefdom: Population
- Could be in the thousands
- More than a tribe less that a state

- Semi-sedentary
- Move to the exact same spot
- Move 2 times a year
Chiefdom: Subsistence Patterns
- Domesticating animals for food
- Cultivation
- Gather and hunt
Chiefdom: Architecture
- Permanent architecture
- Homes all look the same and are generally multipurpose/multi-use
Chiefdom: Leadership/Government
- Royalty, kinship-tied, patriarchal, patrilineal
- Primogenitor (first born son)
(If matrilineal-patriarchal: first born daughter’s husband)
Chiefdom: Technology/Tools/Stuff
- Based around the skills/jobs you have (potter will have a lot of pottery)
Chiefdom: Gender Roles/Specialization of labor
- First place you see specific jobs for each person (multiple people for each job)
- Gender roles are still in place
Chiefdom: Economy
- Beginning of currency (anything you can measure that isn’t going to spoil)
- i.e gold, dilver, salt, beans, shells, feathers, pottery
- long distance trade
