Q

The definition and some examples of chemical level

A

the smallest and simplest level within the structural hierarchy, includes the tiniest building blocks of matter; Atoms and its combined form molecules.

  • Atoms: the simplest units of matterEssential atoms- Carbon (C), Hydrogen (H), Oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P), Calcium (Ca) and Sulfur (S)
  • Molecules: two or more atoms joined togethere.g.) Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA), glucose, proteins

Q

The definition and some examples of Cellular levels

A

made up of the smallest unit of living matter; the cells

  • Cells: the basic structural and functional units of an organismMain parts of the cells- Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Organelles, NucleusExamples)
    • myocyte (muscle cells)
    • nerve cells (nerurocyte)
    • sperm cells (spermatocyte)

Q

The definition and some examples of Tissue levels

A

Definition : Groups of similar cells that have a common function (must contain two different cells)

  • 4 basic types of cells / Example
    1. Epithelial tissues - covers surfaces and lining internal organs (skins, lining of intestine)
    2. Connective tissues - supports and binds structures (Bone, blood, adipose tissue, ligament)
    3. Muscle tissues - contracts to cause movement (skeletal, cardiac, smooth muscles)
    4. Nerve tissues - transmits signals

Q

The definition and some examples of Organ levels

A

Definition: Composed of two or more tissues to form an organ that perform a specific function within a body.

Examples:

  • Heart (pumps blood)
  • Lungs (gas exchange)
  • Stomach(Composed of Smooth muscle tissues, Connective tissues, nerves and epithelial tissues)
  • Muscle (like the biceps brachii, made up of muscle tissue, connective tissue, blood vessels, nerves)

Q

The definition and some examples of System levels

A

Definition: Groups of organs that work together to perform complex body functions.

Example - There are 11 systems

  • Cardiovascular System - Consists of heart, blood vessels to circulate blood through out body to provide nutrients and oxygen
  • Integumentary
  • Muscular
  • Skeletal
  • Nervous
  • Endocrine
  • Lymphatic
  • Respiratory
  • Digestive
  • Urinary
  • Reproductive
