Levels of organisation Flashcards
What are the 6 levels of organism organisation?
• Chemical (or Molecular) Level
•Atoms -smallest chemical units of matter
•Molecules -a group of atoms working together
• Cellular Level
•Cells -a group of atoms, molecules, and organelles working together;
Basic unit of life
• Tissue Level
•A tissue -a group of similar cells working together.
• Organ Level
•An organ -a group of different tissues working together
• Organ System Level
•An organ system is a group of organs working together
•Humans have 11 organ systems.
• The Organism Level
•A human is an organism
What are the elements and macromolecule types (5) and functions (4) on the chemical level?
Types • Ions and electrolytes e.g. Na+, K+, Ca2+ • Proteins • Carbohydrates • Lipids/fats • Nucleic acids Functions • Structure/formwork • Storage • Messengers • Control
What is tissue def and the 4 types of primary types of tissue?
• Tissue is a group of similar cells for a specific function. • Four types of primary tissues are 1. Epithelial tissue 2. Connective tissue 3. Muscle tissue 4. Neural tissue
what are the 2 classifications of organ types and make-up requirements?
- Multi-taskers (skeletal muscles- for movement thermal regulation etc)
- Specialists (Heart etc)
They are made up of different tissues and organ functions are supplied by their tissues wether movement is required, joining or anchoring is needed, sending message to do things and or a cover or a way to let things in etc.
Organ system levels responsibility and various functions (10)
Are in charge of every function organs have such as:
Control, direct, cool, warm, digest, move, protect, remove, reproduce,
store, support and transport.
