Level Four Physics - Practical Physics Flashcards
What are uncertainties?
All experimental measurements have a degree of uncertainty associated with the.
How many types of uncertainties are there?
- Systematic uncertainty
- Random Errors
What is systematic uncertainty?
These occur when all measurements are affected in the same way. This means all results will be out by the same amount.
What are random errors?
Random fluctuations can affect measurements from reading to reading. The best estimate of the true value is given by repeating the readings and then calculating the mean value.
What do repeating measurements make our final results?
More reliable
When is a measurement accurate?
When it is close to the true value
When is a measurement more precise?
When it has more significant figures.
