Level 3 - Construction Technology and Environmental Services Flashcards
Can you describe how you would construct, and measure a piled basement box?
Measure what element?
The piling element would be based on the construction information, the type of piling required, the proposed materials to be used - waterproof concrete etc.
Please advise on the different basement types you are aware of?
Type A (Barrier) - Least protection Type B (Structurally Integral) - secant Piled Wall / Reinforced Concrete wall to Eurocode wall - waterproof concrete - Middle Type C (Drained) - delta systems - Top
When would you use a concrete frame
Residential development / tower - quicker / safer - not a big open plan footprint.
When would you use a steel frame?
In a warehouse / commercial space - open plan space.
What is a transfer slab and why are they used?
A transfer slab is essentially a beam constructed out of concrete and steel reinforcements that is created with a slab of concrete. It is used to transfer the floor loads to the support post and pillars.
How would you measure a steel frame and a concrete frame.
Steel on tonnage, concrete on m3. Based on measuring the details and calculating this way.
