Level 1 Basics Flashcards
The basic foundations of math that you should already know without thinking.
Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide Whole Numbers
Check addition with subtraction and vice versa.
Check multiplication with division and vice versa.
Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide Fractions
Find the common denominator when adding or subtracting.
Multiply the numerators then denominators.
To divide, multiply by the reciprocal (flip numerator and denominator).
Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide Decimals
Align the decimal points, then add or subtract normally.
To multiply, multiply normally then count off decimal places.
To divide, move decimal point of divisor to the right to form a whole number; move the decimal point in the dividend the same number of places. Divide as though there were no decimals, then place the decimal in the quotient.
Convert Fractions to Decimals and vice versa
To convert a fraction to a decimal, divide.
To convert a decimal to a fraction, use decimal name in the denominator.
Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide Positive and Negative Numbers
When addends (numbers being added) have the same sign, add absolute values. When addends are different, subtract absolute values, answer has sign the same as the greater absolute value.
Plot points on a number line
For a positive number, move right.
For a negative number, move left.
Plug a number into an algebraic expression
Choose simple numbers, or use numbers assigned.
Solve a linear equation
Isolate the variable by doing the same to both sides of the equation.
Add or subtract line segments
Pay attention to the segments by using visuals.
Add and subtract as normal.
Find the third angle of a triangle, given the other two angles
The sum of the interior angles of a triangle is always 180 degrees. Use that to solve for missing angle.
