Vygotsky emphasised the importance of relationships and interactions between children and more knowledgeable peers and adults
What did Vygotsky believe in regards to children’s cognitive understandings?
Vygotsky believed that children’s cognitive understandings were enriched and deepened when they were scaffolded by parents, teachers or peers

Vygotsky saw the child learning within social interactions with others
What did Vygotsky emphasise the role of in the development of thinking processes?
Social interactions involve communicating so Vygotsky emphasised the role of language in the development of the child’s thinking processes.
What was Vygotsky’s belief in regards to thinking in concepts?
vygotsky believed that thinking in concepts was not possible without verbal thinking. While thinking and language develop independently, they are merged once language is developed to create verbal thought.
What happens to speech and thought over time?
Speech and thought changes over time and becomes internalised

Vygotsky sees the child’s ability to think logically as developing in stages
