Combo chemo: daunorubicin, vincristine, prednisone, asparaginase – 90% remission
AML ages
median: 60 y/o
AML prognosis
70-80% under 60 achieve complete remission
AML prognostic factors
FAVORABLE: core binding factor (t8, 21), p13, q22
UNFAV: isolated monosomy 5 or 7, tandem duplication in FLT3 = VERY POOR prognosis

Difference b/w ALL and AML histochemistry
AML: peroxidase in myeloid cells and butyrate esterase in monocytic cells
ALL and AML CD
ALL: NO CD3, 4, 8, but combo of 2, 5, 7
AML: CD13 and 33
acute leukemia and infection: neutrophil count
<100/mcL infxn in days
acute leukemia infxn MC pathogens
g-, (e. coli, klebs, pseudomonas) or fungi
Hyperleukocytosis
ELEVATED BLASTS: 100k+/mcL
impaired circulation: HA, confusion, dyspnea
Acute leukemia HALLMARK
pancytopenia w/ circulating blasts (absent in 10%)
DIC
DEC fibrinogen, INC PT, fibrin degradation products, fibrin D-dimers
