What are the types of leukaemia?
There is Acute myeloid leukaemia - this is the most common form of leukaemia in adults
Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia - this is most common in children
Chronic myeloid leukaemia
Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia
What is a leaukamia?
This is a blood cancer that usually begins in the bone marrow and results in a high number of blast cells
What are the signs and symptoms of AML?
Marrow failure: -anaemia -infection - neutropenia -bleeding Infiltration: -Hepatomegaly -Splenomegaly
What are the signs and symptoms of CML?
Insidious: weight loss, tiredness, night sweats, fever Anaemia Bleeding Splenomegaly
What is the treatment for CML?
Imatinib is specifically targeted for CML
Then stem cell transplantation
Wht are the signs and symptoms of ALL?
Usually seen in children: Caused by bone marrow failure: Anaemia - lethargy and pallor Neutropenia - infections Thrombocytopenia - easy bruising Bone pain Hepatosplenomegaly
What is Richter’s transformation?
Ritcher’s transformation occurs when leukaemia cells enter the lymph node and change into a high-grade, fast-growing non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Patients often become unwell very suddenly.
What are the signs and symptoms in CLL?
Enlarged non-tender, rubbery nodes
Hepatosplenomegaly
