Who designed PKT instruments?
Dr. Peter K. Thomas designed a set of 5 waxing instruments

Bulk application of wax
What is PKT #2 used for?
For adding small increments of wax. The smallest tip is also used to smooth the wax
What is PKT #3 used for?
Carving the occlusal grooves and shaping the area between the marginal ridges. It is shaped like an inverted cone.
What is PKT #4 used for?
all purpose carver. We now use the 1/2 Hollenback in its place
What is PKT #5 used for?
Primarily for shaping the marginal ridges and occlusal grooves
Instruments not meant to be heated
PKT 3, 4, 5 and 1/2 Hollenback
Whip mix brush
Use the stiff white end of this brush for the removal of loose
flakes of wax. The flexible end will be used later on in the year for
applying powdered wax in Gnathology
What are these used for?
- The green tip is the #7 wax spatula
- The black tip is the ½ Hollenback
- The pink and the yellow tips are to be used in your denture course and will not be needed in TM
What is the Darby Perry (DPT #6) used for in waxing exercise?
Use the Darby Perry (DPT#6)
to smooth the wax. This
instrument can be slightly
heated before using. It is very
effective in smoothing the wax
pattern.
Very effective for crown margination
