If the numbers in a pattern are decreasing…
..look to add, multiply, or use powers
..look to subtract, divide, or roots
What is Inductive Reasoning?
Making a conclusion based on a pattern of examples or past events.
What is a Conjecture?
A conclusion reached based on inductive reasoning.
What is a Counter Example?
An example that shows that a conjecture isn’t true.
What is Geometry?
The study of points, lines, planes, and their relationships.
What is a Point?
It is the basic unit of geometry.
- A point is labeled with one capital letter.
- You can ink of a point as a location.
What is a line?
A series of point that extends without end in two directions,
- It is labeled with two capital letters with one small line symbol.
- The order of the letters can be switched.
Collinear
Points that lie on the same line.
Ray
Part of a line that has a definite starting point and extends without end in one direction.
- A ray is labeled with two capital letters, the 1st letter is the endpoint.
- The order of the letters can not be switched.
Line Segment
Part of a line that has a definite beginning and end.
- A segment is labeled with two capital letters.
- The order of the two letters can switched.
Plane
A flat surface that extends without end in all directions.
- A plane is labeled with 3 or more capital letters or a single uppercase script letter.
Coplanar
Points that lie in the same plane.
Noncoplanar
Points that do not lie in the same plane.
Postulate 1
Through any two points there is exactly one line.
Postulate 2
If two distinct lines intersect, then their intersection is a point.
