No. We should reserve a very good part to something extraordinary. If you ask a student to read, use “thank you” if he/she has read it based on the expected skill for her grade level. Otherwise, if a grade one student was able to read comprehensively what is on the board, that is something beyond the expected of him/her. Thus, use “very good” as complimentary.
