What is discourse?
The language beyond the sentence and the analysis of discourse is the study of language in text and conversation
What is cohesion?
The individual connections between words and phrases in a text
What is coherence?
The meaningful interpretation made because of connections

Word or a phrase that is not formal and used in everyday/ familiar conversation
What is irony?
The use of language that signifies the opposite for humorous emphatic effect
What is non-standard grammar?
Grammar of a specific dialect of English that differs from the standard form (incorrect grammar)
What is sarcasm?
The use of irony to mock or convey contempt
What are suprasegmental features?
The speech elements like pitch, duration and stress which effect entire words, phrases or syllables
What is a simple sentence?
A sentence made up of just one clause
What is conversational implicature?
When a speaker implies something that is not explicitly stated in utterance e.g blanche being sexual to the young man
