Lesson 7 Flashcards
Revelation 5 describes One on the throne and a Lamb who takes the book from the One seated. How can we understand the relationship of the One on the throne to the Lamb?
The lamb is God incarnate and our sacrifice. Because of this, He can be our redeemer and can open the book. There is one God and this one God came in flesh as the Lamb (the Son) to reveal Himself to man and to redeem man from sin.
What are two explanations offered for verses that may seem to confuse or obscure Oneness doctrine, such as Matthew 28:19?
- These verses are not confusing when read in their original context.
- God allows some verses to be a stumbling block to those who are satisfied with the traditions of men and those who do not seek the truth sincerely, earnestly, and wholeheartedly.
Monotheism
Belief in one God
Atheism
Denial of the existence of God
Pantheism
Belief that God is nature or the forces of the universe
Trinitarianism
Belief in three distinct persons “in” the Godhead
Shema
Deuteronomy 6:4 - the first verse of the basic statement of faith of the Jews
Theophany
A visible manifestation of God, usually thought of as temporary
“Son”
The title of Son always has reference to Christ’s humanity, to the incarnation (God’s manifestation in the flesh)
“Right hand of God”
A symbolic or figurative phrase that refers to strength, power, authority, preeminence, victory, exaltation, and salvation
