lesson 7 Flashcards
acid rain
emissions from a variety of human activities contain pollutant that cause acid rain
what is acid rain consisting of
nitrogen and sulpher containing substances are two of the common pollutant the cause acid rain.
effects of acid rain
destroys coatings on leaves, burns organisms skin, increases soil acidity levels as well as may other harmful things to an ecosystem
topsoil
the upper most layer in soil containing rock particles, fungi, insects, and worms
subsoil
is the layer below topsoil little to none except roots of very large trees and bacteria
bedrock
forms the bottom of the soil profile made up of solid rock and water sits above it.
loam soil
the most fertile of the soil types. is very loose and good for growing crops
clay soil
packed tightly not many air pockets traps water difficult of plants to grow
sandy soil
contains sand particles lots of air pockets and drains water easily but also looses nutrients faster
acidity
is an abiotic factor that is connected to the chemical environment of soil.
pH scale
it show the acidity levels in soil and water
high pH
makes for an alkaline substance
low pH
makes for a acidic substance
soil erosion
is the loss of soil when water or wind washes it away
crop rotation
is the practice of planting a different type of crop in a particular field each year
