If Nurse initiated first aid, must continue until EMT arrives
Triage
patients are grouped together based on severity of injuries

if started do NOT discontinue unless: -Victim Recovers. -Need to apply AED. -Scene becomes unsafe. -Trained Professional Takes Over. -Victim pronounced dead. -Rescuer exhausted & not able to continue
Code Blue
No Pulse, No breathing: START CPR
Clinical Dead
CPR
. Biological death
Permanent cellular death caused by lack of O2. *Must start CPR within 4 Mins!
. Brain death
: irreversible unconsciousness w/complete loss of brain function. Heart continues to beat. NO CPR.
. Emergency
ABCs with head tilt. If crevice spine injury is suspended do JAW THRUST. DONT TILT HEAD.
Signs of difficult breathing
Cyanosis, gasping, wheezing, stridor
. Cardiac arrest
Absence of Pulse
. Choking
Are you choking”???
Shock main s/s
Oliguria (urine <500 ml 24hrs
low urine output
S/S of shock
Restlessness, anxiety, cool clammy pale ashen, cyanosis skin that appear dehydrated. hypotension late manifestation. Shallow, rapid, labored, irregular respirations due to fluid accumulation in lungs.
. PT in shock: establish airway
. Place in SUPINE Position (NOT TRENDELENBURG) with legs elevated. Keep warm (wrap in linens, blankets). Hold food and fluids
Blood loss
Low BP, high Pulse
Arterial bleeding
Apply direct pressure on artery ABOVE Injury, elevate extremity.
Epistaxis
Tilt head FORWARD. Apply pressure to Bridge of nose for 10-15 mins
Apply Ice compress over nose
Shine light to back of throat for bleeding. If bleeding continues, seek care.
Closed Wounds
Ice pack, padding, elastic bandage, abdominal bandage. Monitor the patient for shock.
Open wounds
Clean 1st with normal saline, cover with sterile gauze. Requires *Tetanus Shot or booster.
Abrasions
scrape. Ex. Rope, road burns, scratches, scrapes of elbows and knees.
