REFERENCE GROUP
Social Network exists between actors - individuals or organizations.
NETWORK
Persons or organizations participating in the network.
nodes
Various types of connections between these nodes, assessed in terms of strength, loose connections.
ties
Relationship between any entities that share a genealogical origin through biological, cultural or historical descent.
kinship
Creates complex bonds.
kinship patterns
Human kinship relations through marriage.
affinity
Descent based on links through paternal or maternal line.
unilineal
The family relatives on the mother’s side.
matrilineal
The family relatives on the father’s side.
patrilineal
The family relatives on both mother and father’s side.
bilateral
Two individuals involved in a socially approved relationship.
marriage
Form of marriage in which one man marries more than one woman at a given time.
polygyny
Marriage in which the wives are invariably the sisters.
sororal polygyny
Type of marriage in which the wives are not related as sisters.
non-sororal polygyny
Marriage of one woman with more than one man.
polyandry
Several brothers share the same wife.
fraternal polyandry
Being a mate to one’s husband’s brothers.
levirate
The husbands need to have a close relationship before the marriage.
Non-Fraternal polyandry
One man marries one woman. It is the most common and acceptable form of marriage.
Monogamy
Permitted to marry again often on the death of the first spouse or after divorce.
Serial monogamy
Remarriage is not allowed.
