lesson 5 Flashcards
occurs prior to image being displayed where the
algorithms determine the image histogram, detector defects, are
removed
Preprocessing
- the technologist does it to prepare the image for the radiologist through various user functions.
- may also be performed by the radiologist to produce specialized image to
aid the diagnosis.
Postprocessing
used to blacken out the
white collimation borders, effectively eliminating veil glare
automatic shuttering
the unexposed borders
around the collimation edges allow excess light to enter the eye
Veil glare
When anatomy or the area of interest is too large to fit on one image receptor, multiple images can be BLANK together using specialized software programs
Image Stitching
Allows the selection of
preset terms and/or
manual text input and
can be particularly
useful when such
additional information is
necessary
Image Annotation
it is the patient’s name, date of birth, health-care facility, patient ID, and examination date
Patient Demographics
refers to the maximum high
voltage applied across an X-ray tube to produce the X-rays. (penetrability) affects
contrast
kVp
a measure of radiation produced (milliamperage) over a set amount of time (seconds) via an x-ray tube. (dose) affects density
mAs
the distance from the tube to the receptor. (influences factors such as contrast, distortion, magnification, and optical density)
SID
a measure of radiation in the relevant image region on the receptor
Exposure Index (EI)
The reference exposure is obtained when an image is
optimally exposed. It may be set by the manufacturer or by the local imaging center and is dependent on the body part, view, procedure, and imaging receptor
Target Exposure Index (EIT)
quantifies how much the actual EI varies from the
EIT
Deviation Index (DI)
a method of radiation dose monitoring used in radiographic and fluoroscopic studies. It
provides one indication of the radiation dose received by a patient and is the measurement used in dose audits
Dose area product (DAP) or kerma area product (KAP)
used as an indication of
the dose received by the skin
Cumulative Air Kerma
