What is an ISP
Internet Service Provider
What is an IXP
Internet Exchange Point, physical infrastructure that provides the means for ASes to interconnect and directly exchange traffic with one another
What is a CDN
Content Delivery Network
What is a POP
Point of Presence, one or more routers in a provider’s network which can be used by a customer network to connect to that provider
What is an AS
Autonomous System, group of routers under a single administrative authority
What is an IGP
Internet Gateway Protocol
What is a BGP
Border Gateway Protocol
What is a provider relationship
Finance settlement which determines what customers will pay, influencing a relationship
What is a peering relationship
To ASes share access to a subset of each other’s routing tables, which is restricted to respective customers
What is a BGP session
BGP peers, over a semi-permanent TCP, exchange routing information
What is an eBGP
External BDP sessions
What is an iBGP
Internal BGP sessions
What is a localpref
Attribute used to prefer routes learned through a specific AS over other ASes
What is a MED attribute
Multi-Exit Discriminator, used by ASes connected by multiple links to designate which of those links are preferred for inbound traffic
What is flap damping
Suppressing the route based on tracking updates to a specific prefix over a certain period of time
