Lesson 4: Human Nervous system Flashcards
What are the 3 types of neurons?
- Sensory neurons: these neurons sense and relay information from the environment to the CNS for processing. They are located in clusters called ganglia.
- Interneurons: link neurons within the body and are found mostly throughout the brain and spinal cord. they integrate and interpret the sensory info and connect neurons to outgoing motor neurons.
- Motor neurons: send info to the effectors (muscles, organs and glands)
label an axon
ok
the 3 main parts of a neuron are:
- a cell body
- an axon
- dendrites
When the doctors taps the knee what are they testing?
they are testing the patients reflexes (reflex arc). the doctor is stimulating sensory neurons which stimulate interneurons, which then stimulate motor neurons
polarization and depolarization
resting and action potential
Hoe does a nerve impulse occur?
- look at unit 4 lesson 4
What is a neurotransmitter? What is its role in a nerve impulse?
A neurotransmitter is a chemical that is released from the postsynaptic membrane. It travels through the synaptic cleft and binds to a receptor on the post-synaptic membrane. This results in the nerve impulse being transmitted down the next neuron.
