How does the Bible shape and order public worship services?

A
  1. ) Ensure that the elements of what we are doing is grounded in Scripture.
  2. ) The forms are done consistent with Scriptural teaching and help you do the elements.
  3. ) Circumstances are helpful in assisting with worship
  4. ) Forms and circumstances help us in our elements
    • The purpose of the elements, forms, circumstances is to assure that you’re actually doing worship as it is defined by God in Scripture, and that you are actually worshipping the God of Scripture, and that your aim in worshipping is the aim set forth in Scripture.
  • -The function of the order of service is not to draw attention to itself, but to aid us in our worship of God.
  • -The perfect church service is the one that we are unaware of, so that all of our attention is on God.

How is reverence accomplished in a service of worship?

A
  1. ) Reverent - to treat with respect and honor
    - - making things about God, not self (praise decentralizes self)
  2. ) Not seeking an emotional display where reverence is lost completely
