Mecca Period - shorter length; more prophetic due to persecution; addressed to Muhammad, but he is never the subject
Medinan Period - more legal prescriptions and greater length; laws of Islam; addressed to Muhammad’s followers about Muhammad; Muhammad is exalted more with military power
