Lesson 3 Test Review Flashcards

Q

What is the difference between Nature and Nurture?

A

Nature is already determined, it’s genetic makeup. It is still difficult or impossible to alter. Nurture, however, is continually influenced by other individuals and an individuals’ own influences and preferences. Close attention should be paid to the nurture of children. Example: When a child is reared in an environment where there is a great deal of anxiety, the child is also likely to show symptoms of stress and anxious behavior. Nature is in your DNA, Nurture is how a child is molded and reacts to experiences.

Q

Treatment of Schizophrenia

A

medication, counseling, stress management, who knows? Acupuncture, biofeedback, relaxation. All of these maybe helpful. Please also remember that we may supplement the diet with foliate, omega 3 fatty acids. This may be beneficial as well. Again, like with bipolar, the goal is not to cure, but to reduce the progression of the illness.
