Lesson 3: Ratio and Proportion Flashcards
A comparison of two quantities expressed in colon form or as a fraction.
Ratio
The equality of two ratios.
Proportion
This is a type of proportion wherein as one quantity increases or decreases, the other quantity also increases or decreases, respectively.
Direct Proportion
This is a type of proportion wherein as one quantity increases or decreases, the other quantity decreases or increases, respectively.
Inverse Proportion
This is a proportion formed when a whole is divided into parts of certain ratio.
Partitive Proportion
If a/b = c/d, then ad = bc.
Cross Product Property
Id a:b = c:d, then ad:bc. We call a and d the extremes and b and c the means. That is, the product of the means is equal to the product of the extremes.
