Lesson 3 - Gases in the sea Flashcards
Henry’s Law states that:
C = KH (a constant) x p. Concentration of a solvent at a know temperature is proportional to the partial pressure of the dissolving gas.
When does a liquid become ‘saturated’
When it is at equilibrium with the gas above it
Name 3 control factors of saturation (3)
Partial pressure of gas, temperature, composition of liquid
What is partial pressure
The pressure exerted by a single gas if it occupied the same volume alone.
Trend between salinity and oxygen saturation
Salinity decreases how much oxygen can be dissolved at saturation
Oxygen saturation in a sample equation
Oxygen saturation in a sample = G/G’ x 100
Observed concentration/ solubility of the gas in water of the same temp and saline x100
