Lesson 3 Flashcards
Eukaryotic vs prokaryotic
1) Eukaryotic cells have there DNA within there nucleus, rather than free-floating.
2) Only Eukaryotic cells have memebrane bound organelles.
When did photoautotrophs first appear on earth?
3.5 billion years ago.
Where do Archaebacteria live?
In anaerobic conditions.
What is meant by “alternation of generations” in plants?
The life cycle alternates between sporophyte and gametophyte stages.
How do fungi feed?
A fungal “feeding mat”, the mycelium, is comprised of a network of filamentous hyphae that draws nutrients from a food source.
What is the above surface, reproductive part of a fungus called?
The fruiting body.
What feature is unique to angiosperms?
Angiosperms are flowering plants.
All animals are autotrophs. True or false?
False, animals are heterotrophic.
How do protosomes and deutrosomes differ?
In protosomes embryonic blastospores become the mouth of the adult, while in deutrosomes they become the anus.
Though there are no transitional fossils, how do scientist how do scientist think jaws evolved?
From modified jaw arches.
What are Amniotes and what makes them unique?
Amniotes are tetrapodal organism whose embryos are surrounded by membranes, containing a fluid. In the case of egg-laying amniotes, this allows them to lay their eggs outside of water.
What is the difference between interspecific competition and intrapecific competition?
interspecific is competition between differing species, intraspecific is competition within the species.
What is the between an organisms realized niche and their fundamental niche?
An organism’s realized niche is the portion of its fundamental niche that it actually utilizes.
