Lesson 3 Flashcards
Reflection
The bouncing back of a wave when it hits a surface through which it cannot pass
Transmission
The way a microbial organism moves from one host to another
Diffraction
Occurs when an object causes a wave to change direction and bend around it
Scattering
an interaction of light with matter that causes light to change its energy, direction of motion, or both
Camera Obscura
a darkened enclosure in which images of outside objects are projected through a small aperture or lens onto a facing surface
Amplitude
For a wave or vibration, the maximum displacement on either side of the equilibrium (midpoint) position.
Radiation
Energy that is radiated or transmitted in the form of rays or waves or particles.
Incandescence
A process that makes light with heat
Luminescence.
the emission of light by a substance that has not been heated, as in fluorescent and phosphorescence
Fluorescence
the property of a mineral in which the mineral glows under ultraviolet light
