What is agent of socialisation?
A person or organisation who is (partly) responsible for teaching the norms and values of society
What is meritocracy?
The idea that the hardest working receive the best rewards
What are particularistic standards?
Judged as an individual with unique characteristics usually within the family
What are universalistic standards?
Judged the same as other people
What is scribed status?
Status that is fixed at birth and is unchanging
What is social cohesion?

How does the division of labor serve the needs of the economy?
It is how work is allocated to individuals based on their skill and experience e.g not everyone could be a doctor
What is social mobility?
The change is ones status within a society
What is meritocracy in terms of social mobility?
Everyone has the same chances and opportunities and therefore able to succeed through their own efforts
How can meritocracy benefit social mobility?
Those in education can achieve qualification which helps them to access well paid work which can then help a person to increase their social position/status
What is primary socialisation in regards to school as an agency of socialisation?
Learning that takes place within the family during a childβs early years
What is an example of primary socialisation?

What is secondary socialisation in regards to school as an agency of socialisation?
Learning that takes place outside the family in schools and the workplace
