Lesson 2 Social Behaviour And Cummunication Flashcards
What is splitting
This is something an older dog may do to stop puppies or young dogs from overly boisterous play.
A dog will use his body to physically go between two overly boisterous dogs.
Why do they do splitting?
Splitting is important not only when two or more dogs are involved, but also when we want to provide a barrier between a dog and something a dog is nervous about. Dogs may use splitting with humans too, in order to prevent us from getting too close or too excited.
What’s the aim of splitting ?
The aim is to calm them down and stop the interaction.
What type of dogs are splitter dogs?
who do take part in the play but do not enjoy rough and tumble games. They may be found close to their handler rather than engaging in full on play. The dog might want to join in but lacks the skills, but more often than not they are interrupting the flow of play.
Dogs Mimic behavior because
Dogs mimic each other’s behavior when they think that behavior might be a more efficient way to get something done.
is it only dogs that do emotional contagion
In people, chimpanzees, orangutans and other primates, emotional contagion is linked to facial mimicry, a fast automatic response where they involuntarily mimic others’ expressions.
what has research in dogs mimicking shown
dogs mimic playful interactions more rapidly and strongly than other behaviors, such as jumps or bites. Moreover, playful sessions interspersed with rapid mimicry lasted longer than ones without it.
why do we mimic behavior
a basic form of empathy where one shares another emotions. The discovery indicates that this type of imitation–a prerequisite for cultural learning–may predate primates.
do dogs need the full repertoire of human cognitive skills to selectively imitate the actions of another.
no but what is unclear is whether dogs have evolved this ability independently or because of their close connections with humans.
What is playbow
The play bow is a play signal in dogs; This posture is often assumed abruptly, as though the suddenness of the movement is part of the signal.
