Hammer-blow at Paris through Belgium to take France and Belgium out; The plan assumed that France was weak and Russia would take ages to mobilise its army.

- Russia mobilised its army and France didn’t.
- Germany thought Britain wouldn’t join the war if Belgium was invaded, that didn’t happen
- Belgium refused to let the Germans through so they were invaded and prevented the Germans from getting to France, helping [France] to mobilise its army.
