Lesson 2: Patterns in Numbers Flashcards
This is also known as first βdegree function where the involved variables are all raised to one. Its graph is a straight line, continuous on both ends. π²=ππ±+π
LINEAR FUNCTION
This is also known as second βdegree function where one of the involved variables is raised to two (2) or squared and the rest are all raised to one (1). Its graph is a parabolic curve, continuous on both ends. π²=ππ±Β²+ππ±+π
QUADRATIC FUNCTION
This is somewhat similar to quadratic function, only that, the base is a constant and the exponent is a variable. π²=π€πβΏ
EXPONENTIAL FUNCTION
It is a sequence for which any element, except the first, can be obtained by adding a constant to the preceding element. The constant addend is called the common difference. This is similar to a linear function. tβ=tβ+d(nβ1)
ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE
It is a sequence such that any element after the first can be obtained by multiplying the preceding element by a constant. The constant multiplier is called the common ratio. This is similar to exponential function. tβ=tβr^(n-1)
GEOMETRIC SEQUENCE
If the first differences are the same in a sequence, what function is it?
LINEAR FUNCTION
If the second differences are the same in a sequence, what function is it?
