Lesson 2: Organizing and Displaying Data Flashcards
1
Q
what is good research based on?
A
collecting large amounts of data, which needs to be simplified
2
Q
what is frequency distribution?
A
lists all possible data values or type, and the frequency of occurrence of each one
- meant to organize and describe the data in table form
- use frequency table to construct a frequency histogram (graph)
- reveal the pattern of the scres/observations
3
Q
what are the types of frequency distributions?
A
- ungrouped - single values ex. blood types, majors, teams, number of kids in house
- grouped (class intervals) - in a range ex. annual salary, reaction time, age
4
Q
what are the steps in constructing a grouped frequency distribution?
A
- count the number of scores
- identify highest and lowest score
- identify smallest unit of measurement
- decide an appropriate number of class intervals
- decide on the score range of each class interval (i)
- round this class interval to make the range pretty
- list class intervals of scores in order
5
Q
what are three rules for intervals?
A
