The factory system changed the way people lived and worked , introducing a variety of problems
Why it matters
Many less developed countries are undergoing the difficult process of industrialization today
How did working in factories benefit people ?
people could earn higher wages in factories and with this money they could heat their homes and wear better clothing, and support their families.
Living conditions
• lack of education
• lack of police protection
• multiple families shared one bedroom
• crowded living caused diseases such as cholera
• workers lived in dark shelters with whole families sharing one bedroom
Working conditions
• low wages
• 14 hour workday , 6 days a week
• no government aid for disabled workers
• children from age 10 were expected to work
• had no cooling or heating system
