What is interesting about an insect’s eye?
The are Compound Eyes - made up of many tiny lenses
Plumose antennae
antennae with a feathery appearance
pectinate antennae
look like a hair comb.
moniliform antennae
look like a string of beads
serrate segments
segments of antennae that look like a saw blade. Triangular in shape
setaceous antennae
much like filiform antennae, but thicker near the head and thinner near the top.
stylate antennae
antennae that taper down, becoming thinner and thinner until ending in a long thin point
lamellate antennae
end in a tip that is like a flattened fan, like a stack of plates
geniculate antennae
bent like a knee or elbow.
flabellate antennae
look like folding paper fan or feathers
aristate antennae
seem to have little pouches near the head with bristles poking out in both directions
capitate antennae
have prominent knob at the tip
filiform antennae
look like thin threads
clavate antennae
have a knob at the end that forms gradually from the head to the end of the antennae
