Lesson 2: Circle Termilogies Flashcards
Circle
Set of all points equidistant from a given point called the center of the circle
Radius
> Distance from the center to any point on the circle
½ the measure of its dimension
Diameter
Distance across the circle through its center. Also known as the longest chord
Chord
A segment whose endpoints are on the circle
Arc
Is a part of the circle which is located between two points on the circle
3 types of arcs
Major arc
Minor arc
Semi circle
Major arc
Measures more than 180°
Minor arc
Measures less than 180° degrees
Semi circle
Measures exactly 180°
Central angle
Is an angle whose vertex is the center of the circle and whose sides are radii of the circle
Inscribed angle
An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex is on the circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle
Intercepted arc
The arc that lies in the interior of its inscribed angle and has an endpoints on the angle
Secant
It is a line that intersects any two points on the circle
Tangent
It is a line that intersects a circle at exactly one point on the circle. The point of the circle is called the point of tangency
Right angle
An angle exactly of 90°
