Argument
Simply a set of statements, one of which (the conclusion) appears to be implied or supported by the others (the premise).
What are the two types of statements in an argument?
- Premise
and - Conclusion
Conclusion
The point or terminus of the argument: the statement that appears to be implied or supported by others.
Premise
The statements that support or imply the conclusion.
What kind of words introduce a conclusion?
Therefore, thus, so, consequently, etc.
What kind of words introduce a premise?
Since, because, for, given that, etc.
What is the difference between a conclusion and a premise when found in an argument?
An argument will never contain more than one conclusion, but it can contain more than one premise.
