Server-side scripting vs client-side scripting
Server-side means code runs on the server to display the page (can’t be disabled)
Client-side means code placed in the page runs within browser
What is script-blocker?
Gives controls over which websites can run scripts
Three types of add-ons?
Extensions - add functionality I.e toolbar/menu
Plug-ins- plays content/ multimedia on page
Themes- change appearance of browsers
All can be disabled
What is a cookie?
A plain text file created by a website when you visit it, stores info to personalize website.
Can get IP address for location
The browser displays information about certificate in the address bar
What is the purpose of a firewall?
Prevents unauthorized hosts and applications from gaining access to computer/network
What is packet filtering in relation to firewalls?
Firewalls filter network data packets as they pass in and out. Packet filters can be applied to IP addresses and port numbers.
How are application protocols like HTTP, FTP, and SMTP identified?
By a port number
What is a stateful inspection?
An advanced firewall that analyzes the contents of unencrypted network data packs for suspicious activity
Hardware vs software firewall
Hardware - applicable within the firmware
Software- an app within the work station or server
What is a browser extension?
Adds functionality - installing toolbars/changing menus
What does the firewall access control list require?
IP address and port number
What is a cookie?
Plain text file created by website, stored on hard drive
Are pop-up windows implemented using scripts or add-ons?
Yes
