A

In the 25th June 1950 North Korea launched an attack on South Korea with the aim of unifying the two under communist rule.

By the 2nd of July as part of UN forces the British Royal Navy frigates were fighting against North Korean gunboats.

The labour government felt obliged to joint the Americans in the UN force in order to keep up the Anglo-American special relationship.

32 British Royal Navy warships took part in fighting for the next three years

A

Churchill government accept the basic rationale for British involvement of the Korean War

Placed an enormous strain of Britain’s resources both economically and militarily , the country was in overstretch.

Struggled to deploy even two brigades and couldn’t not cut down on defence spending.

There was a rise in expenditure from 8% to 14% of Gross National Product
