Conscience as voice of god evaluation
-Conscience is a dynamic process depending of God’s revelation.
-Can be checked in Divine Law.
-Requires faith.
-Is the “voice” really from God?
-Why do some people have conflicting conclusions?
Conscience as internalised society evaluation
-Keeps society safe and ordered.
-Unites society as everyone shares the views.
-Not necessarily faith based.
-What if you are part of an evil society?
-Collective conscience can go against norms of religion or individuals.
Conscience as inner parent evaluation
-Everyone has a conscience as everyone has an upbringing – does not require faith.
-Guilt helps us learn from mistakes
-Conscience is subjective as everyone has a different upbringing.
-Guilt may apply to good behaviours wrongly.
Conscience as individualised (Kohlbergs) eval
-If everyone gets to the highest level of conscience, society is a Kantian utopia where everyone looks after each other.
-Not may people are capable of reaching the post-conventional conscience
Conscience as reason eval
-Most people do have the ability to reason.
-Synderesis rule results in good.
-Can be confirmed by Divine Law.
-Reason is fallible.
-Is it easy to be reasonable not emotional?
