What is the definition of Conformity?
It is a form of social influence, where a person changes their behaviour so that they are in line with the majority. This can be from real or imagined pressure.
What are the three types of conformity?
- Compliance
- Internalisation
- Identification
What is Compliance?
It is when an individual adjusts their behaviour in public so that they are in line with the majority. It is superficial and temporary.
What is Internalisation?
When an individual changes their behaviour publicly and privately to be in line with the majority. It is more permanent.
What is Identification?
When an individual changes their behaviour/attitudes/beliefs to associate with a social group. It is to feel more connected to the role model/group.
