Form of social influence when a person’s behaviour, attitudes or beliefs are changed so they are similar as the majority
Occurs due to pressure - can be real or imagined
Compliance
Adjustment of behaviour, attitudes or beliefs in public
No change to private behaviour, attitudes or beliefs
Conformity only present in presence of group
Superficial and temporary
Aim to not stand out
Internalisation
Adjusting of behaviours, attitudes and beliefs in public and private
Individual examines their own behaviour based on what others are saying and decided majority is correct
Deeper than compliance
Permanent form of conformity
Identification
Acceptance of social influence to be associated with a role model or a social group
Feel connected to role model/group
