Lesson 1 (Introduction) Paging Systems Flashcards
Systems such as ___ and ___ will not typically be classified as distributed sound systems, but share some of the same characteristics and some use same equipment as distributed sound systems.
public address
sound masking
___ are used in commercial application to distribute sound.
Paging systems
When distributing sound, you must consider to create a ____ field. Paging and music overhead must be ___ and loud enough to hear.
uniform sound
intelligible
Locations to find these systems:
- Offices, factories, warehouses
- Financial Institutions
- Retail stores and locations
- Transportation
- Hospitality
- Arts and Entertainment
Office, Factory, Warehouse Applications
- General announcements to locate personnel, announce visitors and incoming calls.
- Tones: Responses of situations, various security, confidentiality needs, shift changes or breaks, and have the ability to prioritize music and/or paging
- Make single announcements to multiple locations/building simultaneously.
- Monitor noise
- Send pages or activate messages from a facility phone
- Sound masking
Transportation Applications
Schedule information, announce arrival or departure times, emergency information, communicate with employees discreetly using tones.
Methods used to distribute sound (constant/self amplified)
- Constant voltage system (25V or 70V)
- Self amplified (24V)
Constant Voltage Systems (25V or 70V)
Uses centralamplifier - more speakers over a long distance
- 25V - Educational or institutional facilities where safety is a concern
- 70V - Most commonly used in USA.
Self Amplified System (24V)
- Uses a line level signal and power supply
- Each speaker is its own amplifier
- Uses 4 wire configuration two 24V power, two audio
- Small institutions / six or fewer speakers.
System Components
- Source components, mixers, amplifiers, mixer/amps, power supply, volume control, transformer, speakers, wire
- Microphones, tuners, CD players, etc (source components). Consider these devices to be input devices, enhance the system, and expands the capabilities of the system in the form of background music.
Mixers
Combine signal/input selection
Allows signal control
Considered pre-amp
Does not provide amplification
Amplifiers
Amplifies the signal provided by the mixer
Sends amplified signal to the speakers
Rated by power capabilities
Mixer/Amplifier
Combination amp and mixer
Supplies power to amplified speakers
Size of power supply is important - must have enough current to power the system.
Power Supply
Used in self-amplified system.
Must have enough current to power the system.
Volume Controls
Used in constant voltage or self-amplified systems.
Used where controlling the volume is necessary.
