Factors driving globalisation?

A
  • New technology, communication and information- info sharing, mobile phones for LIC’s
  • Global Financial Systems-transmission services allow lending and flows of money
  • Transport systems- global transport network, movement of people. Without issue of time and space there are opportunity as well as threats
  • Security- Reduction in significance of traditional security measures.
  • Trade agreements- Global trading rules. WTO oversees 97% of world trade

How is globalisation changing interaction?

A
  • Connections and movements can be forged across a global-scale distance, or space
  • These connections and movements can make different places interdependent on one another for trade or other forms of support
  • Places are becoming dynamic, as societies and cultures begin to mix and change as a result of connections and movements.

Significant dates contributing to globalisation

A
  • 1948-Jamaicans migrate to the UK on the Emrire Windrush. Migrants from British ex colonies like India asked to work in UK due to shortage of Indian workers due to WW2
  • 1996-Broadband internet becomes availible for homes in the US and Europe and despite being only able to send small amounts of data at the start of the internet it led on to revolutionise the world
  • 2011- China overtakes Japan to become the worlds second largest economy. China is the leading BRIC nation and these 4 nations are home to around 3 billion people where the middle class is growing
