The part of speech that expresses action or being

Words that limit or extend the meaning of verbs, and are also used to qualify adjectives and adverbs
What are some examples of adverbs?
running “quickly”, eating “greedily”, sitting “complacently”
What is a noun?
Words that define a person, place, thing, or idea
What are some examples of nouns?
dog, balloon, apostle, holiday
What is a pronoun?
Words used to signify a noun in the place of a noun
What are some examples of a pronoun?
I, you, he/she, it, we, they
e.g. Bob went to work. “He” is a good citizen.
What is an adjective?
The word used to qualify or limit a noun or pronoun
What are some examples of an adjective?
“big” balloon, “brown” boat, “lazy” bob
What is an article?
A part of speech used before a noun for identification
What are some examples of articles?
the, a, an, this
What is a preposition?
Words that show relationships between other words
What are some examples of prepositions?
in, on, under, beside, through
What is a conjunction?
A word connecting other words, phrases, clauses and sentences.
What is an infinitive?
The non-finite form of a verb, that is the form of the verb which is not limited to time, place, or agent.
What are some examples of infinitives?
to “run”, to “walk”, to “sleep”
What is a Direct Object?
The person or thing affected by the action of the verb
What are some examples of a Direct Object?
Joe kicked “Bob”
What is an Indirect Object?
The person or thing indirectly affected by the verbal action, usually indicated by the word “to” or “for” proceeding it.
What is an example of an Indirect Object?
Joe brought “Bob” a hammer
