LESSON 1: CELL THEORY Flashcards
The cell theory
- all living organisms are composed of cell
- cell is the basic unit of life
- all cells arise from pre existing cells
He examined a piece of cork and found little structures which he compared to cellulae.
He called the structures “cells”.
ROBERT HOOKE 1665 ( using compound microscope)
the first one to give precise shape and size to human blood cells. Two years later in 1676, ______ was able to discover bacteria in water.
1674, Leeuwenhoek
Leeuwenhoek found moving protist and sperm, collectively he called them
animalcules”
(a German botanist) established that the small compartment of his plant specimens are cells.
1838, Matthias Jakob Schleiden
(a German Zoologist), after doing microscopic studies of animal cells, he instituted that all animals are also composed of cells.
In 1839, Theodore Schwann,
Introduced the third tenet of the cell theory:
Rudolf Virchow
Omnis cellula e cellula”
“All cells comes from pre-existing cells.”
( Rudolf Virchow)
Invented the primitive microscope with the help of his father Hans
Zacharias Janssen
(1580-1638)
conducted separated investigations on plant cell. They determined the presence of organelles within its cells
1665-1676 Marcello Malpighi and Nehemiah Grew
made a series of discoveries about cell organalles and ultimately dicoveres the NUCLEUS this beome major brearkthrough in the history of biology
robert brown (1831
microscopically examine plants and recognized that plant parts coe from cells. In his writings in CONTRIBUTION IN PHYTOGENESIS, he proposed that the different structures of plant are all composed pf cells
Matthias Schleiden (1838)
declared that animals are likewise composed of cells. This put an end to debated- wheter or not plants and animals are different in structural origin and composition
Theodore Schwann (1839)
stated that sperm and egg are composed of cells and that all human are configured from cells
Albrecht von Roelliker (1840)
was developing fermentation, a process to kill bacteria, he proved that bacteria are able to mulitply and that bacterial cells come from other bacterial cells
Louis Pasteur (1849)
