Lesson 1: Cell Organelles Flashcards
What is the structure of the nucleus
Prominent under the microscope, contains DNA, and a nucleolus where ribosomes photosynthesis
What is the function of the nucleus?
Acts as a control center for the cell, containing genetic material, produces ribosomes
What is the structure of mitochondria?
Has a large surface area, varies on shape and size, the wall contains of two membranes
What is the function of the mitochondria?
Provides energy as the powerhouse of the cell
What is the structure of the cell membrane?
Semi permeable
What is the structure of the Endoplasmic reticulum?
Provides a large surface area which helps maintain the structure of the cell
What is the endoplasmic reticulum function?
It forms a transport network through the cell, and a large surface area for chemical reactions
What is the Golgi apparatus structure?
It is made up of membrane-bound flattened sacks piled up in stacks
What is the Golgi apparatus function?
Produces a combination of sugar and protein, transports and stores lipids
What is the lysosome structure?
It is a membrane-bound organelle packed with digestive enzymes
What is the function of the lysosome?
It recycles by destructing the unwanted and worn out organelles, complete digestion of a cell after its death
What is the function of the vacuole?
Supports the cell, providing structure
What is the structure of the vacuole?
A fluid filled sac surrounded by a membrane
What are the two types of cell?
Eukaryotic and prokaryotic
What is the scientific name for an animal cell?
Eukaryotic cell
