Lesson 1 - Basic Nomenclature Flashcards
1
Q
Define FS/T/S
A
Focal Spot/Target/Source. All mean the same thing - where x-ray beam is coming from
2
Q
Define SID and older terms: AFD, TFD, FFD, SFD
A
Source to Image Distance. AFD: anode to film distance TFD: target to film distance FFD: focal film distance SFD: source to film distance
3
Q
Define: SOD, AOD, FOD, TOD. Which are most common
A
SOD: source to object distance
AOD: anode to object distance
FOD: focal to object distance
TOD: target to object distance
SOD and TOD are most common
4
Q
Define OID and OFD
A
OID: object to image receptor distance
OFD: Object to film distance
5
Q
Differentiate between primary radiation, remnant radiation and scattered radiation
A
Primary radiation (PR) is all the radiation between the source and the patient. (incident radiation or useful beam) Remnant radiation (RR): unabsorbed primary radiation - radiation that hits the IR Scattered radiation (SR): primary radiation which has been deflected or changed direction.
6
Q
3 things can happen when an x-ray leaves source:
A
absorbed, scattered, penetrated through to IR
some absorption or attenuation has to occur. If none then NO image
