Lesson 1: ATP: Adenosine Triphosphate Flashcards
- is the chemical reactions in the body’s cells that change food into energy.
- Our bodies need this energy to do everything from moving to thinking to growing.
- Specific proteins in the body control the chemical reactions of metabolism.
Metabolism
breaking down of large molecules to form small molecules. it releases sound and heat.
Catabolism
the process by which the body utilizes the energy by the catabolism to synthesize complex molecules.
anabolism
large molecules are broken down into small ones. energy is released.
catabolic/ catabolism
- Energy currency of the cell
- made up of an organic molecule
adenosine, plus a tail of 3 phosphate
group
-It is the release of the phosphate at the
tip of the triphosphate that makes energy
available to working cells.
ATP
small molecules are assembled into large ones. energy is required.
anabolic/anabolism
1 ATP - 1P = ?
ADP (adenosine diphosphate)
they act as tiny catalysts, facilitating chemical reactions in our bodies. they also help us to break down food, convert nutrients into energy, build and repair tissues.
enzymes
made in the pancreas; breaks down fats
Lipase
made in the pancreas; breaks down proteins
Protease
